FAQ
What is upcycling?
Upcycling is like recycling, but turning it UP a notch. Instead of just rewearing second hand clothing as-is, it is changed and altered. Old clothing, blankets, sheets, tablecloths etc. are cut, sewn, painted and dyed to make new pieces.
How do I wash my clothes? Will the paint and dye come off?
The paint and dye is permanent, most pieces are even machine washable and dryer safe. However, it’s always recommended to wash in cold water and hang to dry to keep the clothing in best condition. The colours may fade over time if exposed to a lot of sun. You will receive care instructions with your order.
Why don’t you have a variety of sizes for each item?
Due to the nature of upcycling, most pieces are sourced individually. When hunting for materials, if I find a good quality piece to use as a canvas, I grab it no matter what the size. Since each design is only made once, it is only available in that specific size.
I want an item, but it’s already sold out…
Every item is a one of one design. All the painting and dying is done by hand without stencils and templates, so there is actually only one item in stock for each style. If you see something you like, grab it before it’s gone! You can also place a custom order and have something similar made by messaging me on Instagram @dasbeige, or by email dasbeigeco@gmail.com.
Where do you get the used fabric and clothing?
Everywhere! I’m always on the hunt. People I know give me clothes and things that they are about to get rid of. Wherever I am travelling, I go through second hand shops, markets, garage sales, etc. In Tulum, there are a ton of pop-up “bazaars” – basically just locals with big tables full of used clothing outside their homes. I ride my bike around town and see what catches my eye. Sourcing can be exhausting, but it’s always worth the super special finds.
Is everything upcycled?
Custom tracksuit orders and most T-shirts are made to order from new. Bucket hats are also new, however any patches on them are sewn and painted by hand, and made from upcycled fabric.
What is the return policy?
Because the brand is traveling, we are not doing returns at this time. I can personally guarantee that you’re going to love your piece, and 100% guarantee that nobody else will have anything like it. Message me with any issues and we will do our best to fix it!
How long does a custom order take?
Time varies depending on the size and detail of the order. Typically I will try to have the order finished and sent to the destination within 2-4 weeks.
