ONCE UPON A BEIGE...

My name is Jess Marcos and I am the creator behind Das Beige. To get into the depths of how it began would take ages, but I’ll do my best to express the essence of it all!

I was always fascinated by sustainability and upcycling. Much of my childhood was spent creating and crafting with my Macedonian grandmother; Baba. She taught me how to sew and inspired me with her creations. She made beautiful quilts out of the fabric from old curtains, sheets and clothing. Since then, I have loved transforming used things into new treasures. 

Before Das Beige was a brand, it was a nonsensical inside joke; a vibe and culture that originated in Australia. My friend and I spent 16 months traveling the East Coast, spontaneously attending as many festivals–“bush doofs” as we possibly could. Amongst this experience, we hitchhiked over 3000 kilometers with all of our luggage, plus an additional suitcase full of thrifted clothing, fabrics and art supplies to make our festival outfits.  

These Aussie doofs were pure magic! While surrounded by the extremely neutral toned beige Australian landscape, we were also surrounded by the most amazing, eclectic and vibrant music, art, and people. We became obsessed with this contrast, and have been basking in the beigeness ever since. The name itself "Das Beige" embodies this playful irony. The clothing is so colourful and full of life...everything but basic beige.

Living in Australia was truly transformative. This was when I began to fully embrace my creativity, discovered the power of play, and reconnected with my inner child. This experience ignited a dream of one day creating a sustainable, fun, fashion brand that reflects those values.

Das Beige is my ever evolving passion project. The overall style takes influence from Australian festival fashion, my home city of Toronto’s vintage streetstyle, with a tropical twist inspired by my love for the beach and years spent living in Tulum, Mexico.

Each and every piece is one of a kind, handmade from used clothing and fabrics I source from wherever I am in the world. Das Beige is dreamy fashion for the soul designed to elevate your vibe and become your favorite piece. My goal is for you to feel beautiful, confident, and unique while igniting your playful inner child.
